PROFILE
Phantasmagoria is the current band of well-known bassist, Kisaki (ex Mirage, Syndrome, Kisaki Project). Extremely visual with a heavy rock sound, the group is one of the most popular off of the Under Code Production label.
Phantasmagoria : a fantastic series of images, such as those seen in a dream. Their visuals and music often seem to be created with this very definition of the band's name kept strongly in mind.

BIOGRAPHY
Formed in November of 2004 after the disbandment of the highly successful Kisaki Project, Phantasmagoria's autentic line-up seemed to consist mostly of friends of Kisaki's : Mao (ex Selfush) on vocals, Jun and Iori (both ex Mar'derayla) on guitar, and Shion (ex Mist of Rouge) on drums. Mao's participation, however, in the band was short lived and he left in 2004 to be replaced by Kenji (ex Hisakarea), who is now going by the name Riku.
Their first performance was on December 7th in 2004 with their first maxi-single, Moonlight Revival, released on the 22nd of the same month. Two days later, they took part in the Fool's Mate festival, "Beauti-fool's Fest 2004" along side other bands such as Plastic Tree and MUCC.
In early 2005, drummer Shion unfortunately left the group for sanitar reasons and Matoi (ex Hiskarea) took over the position. Since that time, the group has kept busy releasing numerous tracks on various omnibus CDs, multiple singles and DVDs, a mini-album, a CD that was released only in America (Splendor of Sanctuary), and numerous photo books (some of which are more Kisaki-centric, such as the "Artistic in Black" collection, and do not actually have any other members from Phantasmagoria featured in them).
Riku and Kisaki dropped in on some of their American fans at Anime Expo in July of 2005 for an autograph and photo session. This was only a minor prelude, however, to the band's first American performance that same year in October at the Oni-con convention in Texas. They were well recieved by their fans there who made an effort to keep up with and copy the furitsuke/hand movements of Riku during their songs while enjoying the performance.
2006 was another busy year for Phantasmagoria, including the release of multiple singles and a mini-album released in September called Synthesis Songs. Late 2006 also brought a surprising announcement from Kisaki; Phantasmagoria would be 'graduating' alongside fellow Under Code Production bands Vidoll and 12012 from their label on Valentine's Day in 2007. It was repeatedly stressed that these groups would not be breaking up and Phantasmagoria kept going strong up into December when they took part in a two-man live with Vidoll and released another mini-album, subjective or ideal.
Unfortunately, the following year was not as kind. Despite the 'graduation live' (later released on DVD) and the release of a single in February, Phantasmagoria suffered the loss of two members as guitarist Iori and drummer Matoi both decided to leave the group. In addition to this, guitarist Jun announced plans for a solo project on the side as Kisaki decided to temporarily revive Kisaki Project.
Fans hoped that all of this meant that Phantasmagoria would simply be taking a break as the band announced some plans for participating in multiband events and more releases. Though Kisaki had been involved in some legal trouble during the early months of 2007, many continued to hope that despite this and the hiatus of the band, everything would work itself out and Kisaki's final band would be back on track soon. Sadly, in April Kisaki announced that he would be retiring from the stage and Phantasmagoria would be disbanding. Their final single, a re-recording of Kami Uta, will be released on July 18th and their final live will be held at the Shibuya AX in Tokyo. |
